Career opportunities for athletic trainers are expanding beyond the playing field and gymnasium. Today, athletic trainers are finding interesting opportunities in the arts, business and clinical settings, to name but a few. Through OTRF, Dr. Steven Chudik, orthopaedic surgeon, sports medicine physician and OTRF founder, hosts a one-semester, unpaid internship for college junior and senior athletic training students. Candidates must be enrolled in an athletic training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). During the internship, athletic trainers acquire experience and hands-on training in a clinical setting assisting Dr. Chudik and working with patients. This includes everything from taking a patient’s health history and ordering diagnostic tests and labs, to applying casts and providing patient education.
